Here
is a quick note about the races on my journey. My goal is to raise
awareness for LMS at each event as I build up to 700kms. All my results
can be viewed on the event websites. I register under my first name
David but I've always been Maki.
Ostrich Festival 5k 3/5/06
This was a fun race to get started, no ostrich on
the course though. They didn't show up until the next day.
Ride for the Children 25 mile
Cycling 3/19/06
Water. That's what I remember about this race.
Dark clouds and cold wet rain. It was fun (now that it is
finished).
They offered a 25 mile ride or a 60 mile ride and I think everyone was
soaked through and through by mile 25.
2.4 Open Water Swim 3/25/06
Nice day, nice swim in Tempe Town Lake. Blue skies and calm water, kind
of like swimming in a giant, murky, brown pool.
Splash and Dash I 2000m swim/3km run
4/1/06
A bit of a struggle on the swim but recovered for the run. Another nice
day at Tempe Town Lake.
Mummy Mountain Run 10 mile 4/2/06
A beautiful course through Paradise Valley. Some tough hills but a fun
race. I was joined by friends from the United Kingdom, Mark and Megan
Burley. They both finished in front of me.
Splash and Dash 2 500m swim/5km run
4/14/06
An evening race at Tempe Town Lake. The wind was howling over the lake,
but we had a litle shelter from the berms. It made for a packed bumpy
swim and a nice run.
Pat's Run 4.2 miles 4/15/06
What
a great race! Thousands of people out to honor Pat Tillman's memory and
what he believed in. A strong sense of community among all
the participants. It was inspiring to see people from so many different
walks of life come together. The race finished on the field at Sun
Devil Stadium and I took Evan onto the field for his own running. He
loved it.
Armed Forces Triathlon
1k/18mile/4mile 4/30/06
Another
great event to honor those serving in the armed forces. On a personal
note, this one was painful. Today felt like a struggle from the
beginning. I just seemed
worn out. Made it to the finish line and another step closer to the
goal.
SRP Night Run for the Arts 8km 5/6/06
A
run through Old Town Scottsdale in the evening. Definitely a fun event
with live music and a nice course. My two year old son Evan (who is
always there to cheer me on) and my wife Caron
really enjoyed this one.
Tempe ITU Sprint Triathlon
400m/20km/5km 5/21/06
This was a fun race at Town Lake. I opted for the sprint instead of the
Olympic. I felt great throughout.
Splash and Dash 4 500m swim/5km run
5/27/06
Beautiful day at Town Lake. I tried to take it easy today and prepare
for the next race. Nice and mellow.
Sahuarita Triathlon 1000m/25km/5km 5/29/06
A
small community outside of Tucson. This was an awesome race. I felt
great throughout and it was well organized and spectator friendly. Evan
and Caron made the trek
(as always) and cheered me on.
Mountain Man Triathlon 700m swim/20km bike/5km run 7/16/06
A
beautiful setting just south of Flagstaff at Lake Mary. I had a lot of
family and friends there for this one. The course was beautiful, very
scenic. Lots to look at while struggling for air at altitude.
9/11 Run 5km 9/9/06
A nice race through Kiwanis Park in Tempe. The race honored those who lost their lives on 9/11 as well as those who are serving in the armed forces. It was a beautiful day, a nice morning run.
Timex Triathlon 1500m sw/40km bike/10km run 9/24/06
Another event at Town Lake. There is something every week. This was the first year for this event and it was a blast. Very well organized, great weather and a nice course. The race went well, although the legs were tired on the run.
Mountain to Fountain Aquabike 1.2 mi swim/56 mi bike 10/01/06
What a blast. It's nice to know you don't have to worry about running after a long bike ride. The swim in Saguaro was awesome. Definitely a tough ride with two rips up Usery Mountain Pass and many other hills. Great race.
Lake Pleasant Tri 750m sw/20km bike/2.5 mi run 10/8/06
I felt great for this race. My Dad came out and cheered me on. I had a great swim, good bike, and a good run. Really enjoyable day.
Papago Park Off Road Triathlon
10/14/06
This where the wheels came off...literally. I had a good swim and was cruising through the bike portion when I wiped out. I suffered a separated shoulder, smashed helmet, and cuts and bruises. The rest of the races are on hold.
Tour de Scottsdale 10/15/06
Unable to compete due to injury.
Soma Half Ironman 10/29/06
Coming Soon.
Blue Water Tri 11/12/06
